Wegovy (Semaglutide) Injectable Pen

Wegovy is an injectable medication containing semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used in the clinical management of weight. It is administered once weekly by subcutaneous injection using a pre-filled pen device and is prescribed as part of a monitored clinical programme. This page provides factual product information only and does not constitute medical advice.

How Semaglutide Works

Semaglutide works by mimicking GLP-1, a hormone naturally produced in the gut after eating. It acts on receptors in the brain that regulate appetite and feelings of fullness. Wegovy is one of several treatment options that may be considered by your clinician as part of a medically supervised weight management programme.

Prescription and Dosing

Wegovy is only available on prescription. Your dose is determined entirely by your prescribing clinician based on your individual health profile and clinical assessment. Doses are typically started low and increased gradually over a number of weeks. Do not adjust your dose without first consulting your clinician.

How to Administer

Wegovy is injected once weekly under the skin, typically into the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Full administration instructions are provided by your clinical team at the point of prescribing. If you have any concerns about self-administration, contact your clinical team before proceeding.

  • Inject once weekly on the same day each week
  • Rotate injection sites to avoid skin irritation
  • Store in a refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius
  • Do not freeze
  • Dispose of used pens and needles in an approved sharps bin

Important Safety Information

Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine and must only be used as directed by your prescribing clinician. Do not share your medication with any other person. Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation, particularly during dose escalation. These typically reduce as your body adjusts. A full list of side effects and contraindications is provided in the patient information leaflet supplied with your medication.

Sharps Disposal

Used Wegovy pens and needles must be disposed of in an approved sharps bin. Never place used sharps in household waste or recycling. A yellow sharps bin is available to order alongside your medication.

Your Ongoing Care

All prescriptions issued through PrimeLife are part of a monitored clinical programme. Regular reviews are included in your care plan to track your progress, manage any side effects, and make clinical adjustments where appropriate.
